Trashing Furniture

[Posted at Oct'07] Maybe the picture isn't too good to show but these are in-perfect-state furniture pieces that were trashed in one of the trash collector spots in the condo that I live in.

If that happened in my home town, people over there would say that whoever trashed that is crazy or are quite spoiled. But people down there don't know that here sometimes you have to pay to trash stuff or get rid of things.

If you think you need to pay to trash things, or get rid of stuff, a lot of other "crazy" things that happens in America actually do a lot of sense. For instance, let's take the example of T-Shirt for U$1.00.

Sounds crazy that clothes that usually cost a lot more are sold for U$1.00. The thing is, if you were a store owner and bought 100 T-Shirt and sold most of them. Let's say that you have 2 or 3 that most likely will not be bought soon. They actually became a problem since your store has limited space and there will be a new batch of clothes comming soon. You have couple options.

A) You can trash it. But then, you would be loosing whatever the shirt costed + paying someone to take it out of the shelf + a potential a trashing fee

B) Or you can just lower the price until someone decide to buy

If think in this way, if you do B, you'll actually making money. And if you have enough statistics (they usually have) you can increase shirt price slightly to include the money that you will loose when you have to lower the price of the never selling 2%.

If you think in this way, they are actually very clever. ;)
